Commonly used sterilization methods in the food industry include dry heat sterilization, steam damp heat sterilization, gas sterilization, radiation sterilization, and filter sterilization. Sterilization by filtration is a method that uses the principle that bacteria cannot pass through a dense porous filter material to remove microorganisms in liquid. Sterilization by filtration has significant advantages compared to other sterilization methods used in the food industry:

The filter used in the filtration sterilization method usually uses a microporous membrane with uniform pore size distribution as the filter material. The filter membrane can intercept all bacteria, yeast, and mold, and most of the active ingredients in food can pass through the membrane. The material of the filter membrane depends on the nature of the filter item and the purpose of filtration. At present, the filter membranes used by Lingjie include polyethersulfone filter membrane PES membrane (self-developed), PVDF, PP, DIPTFE, DEPTFE, NYLON, GF, and other filter membranes. The most suitable solution can be prepared according to the different filtration requirements of customers.
The economy of the membrane lies in the fraud of the membrane filtration device, the size of the membrane area, and flux (that is, the production capacity), followed by water, electricity, gas consumption, and maintenance costs. Therefore, in equipment design and production practice, the pore size of the filter membrane should be selected according to the product's solid content and the particles' characteristics. Usually, a membrane with a small pore size (0.1-0.5 μm) is selected for filter sterilization, which can replace pasteurization. Effectively filter out the bacteria in the product and manufacture sterile products, so as to achieve the purpose of reducing costs and saving expenses.
The filter cannot adsorb the filtered components, nor can it release substances, and there must be no fiber shedding. Do not use filters containing harmful substances such as asbestos. Filters and membranes should be cleaned and sterilized with high-pressure steam or sterilized in place before use. When changing varieties and batches, the filter should be cleaned first, and then the filter membrane should be replaced. In order to ensure the sterilization effect of filtration, two filters can be used to filter in series, or the filter can be used again before filling.
The cleanliness of the production environment should be closely monitored for products that are sterilized by filtration. It is recommended to perform filtration operations in a sterile environment. Related equipment, packaging containers, stoppers, and other related items should be fixed by appropriate methods, and prevent secondary pollution.
