Pleated Water Filters Are a Great Option

Benefits of pleated water filters: More surface area to trap water. Greater contaminant holding capacity. Higher contaminant removal. Longer water filtration life. Specific applications for pleated water filters; whole house, point-of-use water filtering.

The most obvious benefit of pleated water filters is its pleated water filter's life. The higher the flow rate the greater the life expectancy. Also, as the flow rate increases the pressure drop also decreases. This means that over the life of the filter housing the pressure drop will be very low.

Another benefit of the pleated water filters is the increased surface area to trap water. More water can be trapped per area of the pleats. In other words, more water comes through the filter media. The increased surface area equals more water coming through the filter media and this equals less contamination.

The benefits of the pleated water filters are great on their own. However, there are even more benefits of the pleated water filters as a part of whole house water filtration systems. The additional stages of purification beyond the initial stage of reverse osmosis that the pleated filter media undergoes allow the bottled water industry to take advantage of the natural biological processes that occur naturally in nature to produce healthy, great-tasting water.

Most of the water filters in the market today have some type of filtration cartridge at the base. The filtration cartridge is comprised of numerous holes or struts, which are the channel where the fine particulates settle on the surface. The larger the surface area of the cartridge the smaller the number of particulates that will settle at the bottom of the reservoir. This means that as the size of the reservoir decreases, so does the amount of particulates that will be skimmed off the bottom of the reservoir.

With the pleated water filter media, the filtrate can be skimmed off the top of the reservoir, down the side of the cartridge, and over the filter surface area by allowing the pleated filter surface area to be relatively large. Because of the large surface area, the water that is skimmed off of the top of the cartridge will have a larger dirt holding capacity. This means that more of the dirt that washes down the sides of the cartridge will end up in the dirty water that is pumped back into the tank. This dirty water will be reconditioned and re-washed. This means more of the contaminant removal that the water had been doing will need to take place.

Pleated filter cartridges can be used with all of the types of filtrate that a customer might have. For example, customers can choose between a low-maintenance cartridge and one that will require more frequent replacement. They can also choose between cartridge styles that will fit under most sinks and cartridges that have an additional interior surface that will keep the dirt from falling through the actual body of the unit. These surface models often have two layers of filter media, one inside the other. However, there are some filtrete cartridges that only require one layer of filter media, but they will have to be made out of very fine particulate.

The best thing about the pleated cartridges is that these cartridges are made for easy replacement. They can easily be replaced with another cartridge without having to drill any new holes into the sink or other components. Most of the cartridges are made with an o-ring that will fit into the existing opening, so it will be as easy as replacing the filter basket on a sink. Customers who want the best chance of keeping their water clean will need to pick up one of these cartridges for each faucet in the home.
